We love the beach, enjoying the warmth provided by the sun, the comfortable sand and the refreshing sea water that covers our body. so a weekend that we take with the aim of tanning will never hurt us; but even in these places of relaxation and distraction it is extremely important to maintain our image as children of God. The world with the passing of the years has left modesty behind, indulging in increasingly sensual clothing. But in previous years the christian bathing suits they tried to hide certain areas in order to maintain the dignity of women.
Times advanced and fashion in its eagerness to sell ruled that the more it is shown the better and gave birth to a garment that for many years caused controversy but is considered normal today: the bikini. It is that it is impossible to go to a beach and not see a woman wearing this type of clothing; but we know that as children of God the fashions of this world do not move us, so what should be our position before this type of clothing? Is it a sin to use bikini on the beach?.
Christian Bathing Suits: Modesty
It is impossible to stop the passage of time and absolutely everything yields to it; our wardrobe has completely changed, we have left behind certain clothes and in many cases we update our clothes to look good according to the fashion of the moment. This is not necessarily bad, our clothing is a letter of introduction and the real danger of fashion in our lives happens when we decide to conform to them and not to be transformed through the renewal of our mind.
Therefore, brothers, I beseech you by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable worship.
two Do not conform to this century, but transform yourselves through the renewal of your understanding, so that you may verify what is the good will of God, pleasing and perfect.
Although the Bible does not address the issue of clothing, it tells us about how our behavior should be in this world. It is true that fashions change and time makes everything obsolete; but the word of God will never pass away and is always valid. Therefore, adopting current patterns of this world which are outside the word can lead us to lose our focus as children of God.
Our clothing should not be marked by the patterns of this world, but by something more real and less fleeting, such as the word of God. However, If I am a believer, is it a sin to wear a swimsuit, specifically a bikini? At the end of the day, it is still just a garment, one might think.
modesty as a guide
We are children of God wherever we are, so we cannot limit the word of God to certain times and places. Modesty should affect all areas of our lives and clothing is one of them. Our wardrobe should therefore be a reflection of the modesty that we carry in our hearts. The problem with the bikini It lies in its conception as a sensual garment, let’s not forget that a large part of the body is visible when wearing this garment, so its use in swimming pools, on the beach or elsewhere, would be like going out in underwear in the street.
The bikini is a garment designed to exhibit, so by wearing it we tell people that they have complete freedom to observe our body with the sole objective of satisfying our ego. The mere thought of exhibiting confronts the word of God, since our body does not even belong to us, so we have no authority over it. The first thing that people see and tend to remember is our way of dressingso we must take care of it to send the correct message.
The believing woman and the bikini
Most of us are aware of this passage from the Bible:
May your adornment not be external: ostentatious hairstyles, gold jewelry or luxurious dresses, but be what comes from the depths of the heart, with the incorruptible adornment of a tender and serene spirit, which is precious before God.
1 Peter 3:3-4
Our beauty goes beyond what we can show with dresses and garments. And a bikini can never show the world what is truly important: what as daughters of God, we try to externalize everything that adorns our interior and point others towards Christ and not towards ourselves.
Always keep in mind that Jesus Christ is our greatest focus, he is the fixed point in which we must look at all times and that is something that transcends any of our desires or thoughts. As a Christian woman you can use Swimwear, as long as this does not transgress your own values. “If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord” (Rom. 14:8). Do not exhibit your body wearing a bikini, exhibit Christ through your actions, so that the world can get closer to Him, ALWAYS BE AN INSTRUMENT IN HIS HANDS.
